SIROMER – THE FLATPACK TRACTOR

You could be forgiven for thinking how on earth could a tractor come in a flatpack – but it is true, and since they discovered the many advantages – countless people have become enthusiasts. In fact, a staggering 4,000 kits have been sold to date by Siromer. Based near Preston in Lancashire, Siromer was founded in 1999 when Jeff Howard was searching for a compact tractor to use on his smallholding. He realised that the options for such a machine in the UK market were pretty limited, so he extended his search overseas, researching various foreign markets and visiting many factories around the globe. Jeff found what he was looking for in a factory in China – and knowing exactly what was wanted, he helped to design the first Siromer tractors himself. Originally imported as a flatpack to help keep costs low, the tractors were then assembled prior to sale. It wasn’t until a customer expressed an interest in building their own that the Siromer Compact Tractor became widely available as a flatpack option. Almost 20 years later, around one in two owners now choose to build their own – a competent handyperson can do it – all you need is the flatpack, some mechanical knowledge, an instruction manual…and a few cups of tea! The flatpacks are put together in approximately ten easy stages, and are distributed in the UK solely through Siromer. Any model can also be supplied fully assembled if required – the choice is yours. Siromer’s network of partners support tractors in their assigned area. Each partner has a range of models in stock and can provide demonstrations. All the partners are trained agricultural engineers and Siromer specialists, so you’re in good hands when it comes to reliability, spare parts and servicing. Currently, the three-model range peaks at a heady 50hp at a price of £15,450 plus vat. Both the 40hp and 50hp Siromer tractors are available with cabs. The four-cylinder water-cooled diesel engines drive through a multi-plate clutch into a transmission offering twelve forward and twelve reverse gears. At the business end, a dual-speed pto and category II linkage with 1700kgs lift capacity offers the ability to lift big bales all day. The flatpacks are fully built at the factory and tested before being ‘flatpacked’ for shipping. Thus, the building of the tractor is a fairly simple 10-step construction process that starts with unpacking the crate. After bolting on the wheels, the roll bar, mudguards and seat belt anchor points are installed, followed by the addition of the front weight frame and battery. Then the rear three-point linkage needs to be fitted, along with the rear lights before lubricants, coolant and fuel is added, and the tractor finally brought to life. Siromer also supply a range of agricultural equipment too, toppers, finishing mowers, verge mowers flail mowers, front loaders, back hoes, tipping trailers, transport boxes, balers, wrappers, harrows, rotavators, ploughs, potato diggers, post hole borers and much more to suit your farming needs.
